Frequently Asked Questions

💫 Getting Started & Booking

  1. How far in advance should we book our family session?

Most families book 4–8 weeks in advance to secure their preferred date, especially during spring and fall when the Pacific Northwest is at its best. Weekend and golden-hour sessions fill quickly, so the earlier you reach out, the more flexibility we’ll have in choosing the perfect time and location.

  2. Where do sessions typically take place?

I photograph families throughout the South Sound from Puyallup and Sumner to Tacoma, Bonney Lake, and Lake Tapps. Together, we’ll choose a location that fits your family’s personality whether it’s a peaceful forest trail, a lakeside dock, or a mountain-view meadow. You can view my Location Guide Here.

  3. What time of day is best for outdoor photos?

Soft golden light makes all the difference. I typically schedule sessions during sunrise or sunset, when the light is most flattering and natural. For families with young children, morning sessions often work beautifully for gentle light and happy moods.

  4. What should we wear for family photos?

I guide every client through a simple styling process to make outfit planning stress free. Neutrals, soft colors, and textures photograph best in the PNW light. You can view my Family Style Guide Here.

  5. Do you help with outfit coordination or styling?

Absolutely! I love helping families look cohesive without feeling over matched. After booking, we’ll discuss your session vision and I can offer feedback on outfit choices.

  6. What if we are not comfortable in front of the camera?

That’s completely normal and most families tell me this at first! My sessions are relaxed, fun, and interactive. I’ll guide you into natural poses and moments that bring out real emotion and connection. When all goes to plan, you’ll forget the camera is even there.

📸 During The Session

  1. How long does a typical session last?

Most family sessions last about 60–90 minutes, depending on your family size, the number of locations, and whether we include pets or extended family. The goal isn’t to rush, it’s to create space for connection, laughter, and genuine moments.

  2. What happens if the weather does not cooperate?

We live in the PNW and weather happens! If rain or wind threatens your session, I’ll reach out ahead of time to discuss rescheduling options. Often, a light drizzle can create beautiful atmosphere, but we’ll always decide together what’s best for your comfort and results.

  3. How do you handle kids (or pets) who do not want to cooperate?

I embrace the unpredictable! Kids and pets are part of the story and my relaxed approach keeps things light and pressure free. We play games, take breaks, and follow their lead, which I find leads to the most authentic smiles.

  4. Can we include grandparents, extended family, or pets in our session?

Absolutely. Your family story is bigger than just one moment. Extended family sessions are a wonderful way to preserve multi-generational memories and pets are always welcome! We’ll simply plan extra time to ensure everyone shines.

🖼️ After The Session & Artwork

  1. When will we see our images?

About two weeks after your session, we’ll meet for your personalized image reveal & ordering appointment either in person or virtually. This is when you’ll see your photos for the first time and select your favorite images for wall art, albums, or collections.

  2. What is included in the session fee?

Your session fee reserves your date, covers the time and talent for your photography experience, and includes professional editing of your gallery. Artwork, albums, and digital images are purchased separately during your ordering appointment ensuring you only invest in what you love.

  3. How does the ordering appointment work?

During your image reveal, I’ll guide you through your favorite images and help design the best way to display them in your home whether that’s a custom gallery wall, framed print, or heirloom album. It’s a relaxed guided experience so you feel confident in your decisions.

  4. What products do you offer?

I specialize in heirloom quality artwork designed to last generations. Offerings include premium wall art collections, handcrafted albums, and museum-grade prints. You’ll also have the option to purchase digital collections if desired.

  5. Do you offer payment plans on artwork collections?

Yes, I offer flexible payment options to make investing in your memories easy and comfortable. You’ll always have a clear understanding of pricing before ordering anything.

☔️ Policies & Practical Details

  1. What happens if we need to reschedule or cancel?

Life happens! If you need to reschedule, please give at least 48 hours notice. I’ll do my best to find a new date that fits. Session fees are non-refundable but can be applied toward a future session with advance notice.

  2. Do you travel outside Puyallup, WA for sessions?

Yes! I regularly photograph families throughout Pierce and King Counties and travel up to 90 minutes from Puyallup. If you have a special destination in mind (mountains, coast, or even your family cabin), I’d love to make it happen however, travel fees may apply for locations beyond my standard radius.

  3. What safety precautions do you take during sessions?

Your family’s comfort and safety always come first. I maintain a calm, patient environment and am experienced working with children, pets, and multi-generational families. Outdoor sessions are chosen carefully for accessibility and safety.

Yes, I professionally edit every final image to enhance color, lighting, and skin tones while maintaining a natural and timeless look. I’ll remove small distractions like flyaway hairs or blemishes, but never over edit or alter your natural appearance.
